24 volumes. In a limited edition of 270 sets, with 250 for sale, this is set 87/270 sets. Printed at the Curwen Press on St. Cuthbert's Mill 100% rag mould-made paper; bound, presumably, by Zaehnsdorf in full dark green chieftan goatskin, titling in gilt on the spine; raised bands; marbled endpapers; teg. The title pages are printed in red and black. The frontispieces are printed on heavy wove paper in sepia and black, and struck with a plate mark, to match the original volumes. Each frontis has a tissue guard and is tipped in. A double spread map of Wessex, printed on wove paper in black at the Curwen Press is bound in at the back of each volume. First announced in the 1981 catalog from Johnson Reprint, this set is from the library of Eugene Istomin, who was one of the great pianists of the late 20th century, and project director, beside William Jovanovich, for Johnson Reprint Corporation. Eugene Istomin oversaw the production of the Wessex Edition and the result is a testament to fine book making in very fine condition.
