Spine cloth at the joint tearing on volume 1, wear to spine ends, edges and corners; volume 2 with wear to the spine ends; both copies slightly cocked. Both volumes have good shelf presence with volume one in slight better than good condition, and volume two in very good condition. Price: 500.00 USD

	2	Stowe, Harriet Beecher. Uncle Tom's Cabin; or, Life Among the Lowly. Boston: John P. Jewett & Company, 1852. 2 volumes. 312p; 322p, plates. 19.5cm. Green cloth with gilt covers and spine; aeg; cream endpapers. First edition, second printing with 10,000 thousand on the title pages. Wear to the spine ends, especially the head cap of volume two; volume one with one skinned corner; volume two with non-detracting stain on the covers and one skinned corner, also slight staining at the fore edge and top edge of the first few pages; slight foxing of end papers in both volumes; both volumes sligtly cocked. The first press run of 5,000 copies sold out quickly, and a second printing sold out within the week. According to BAL the first printing consisted of copies bound in paper, cloth covers with the cover vignette in gilt, and gift bindings with gilt covers and gilt edges. Although black, purple and brown were used for standard copies, more colors can be found for the gift bindings. The gilting is bright on the covers of these covers and spine gilting is equally excellent giving these volumes very attractive shelf presence. Almost near fine but definitely in very good condition.
