Frontis, engraved title page,lxxi, 557p, 7 plates, illustrations. 24cm. First edition. Green cloth, floriated border stamped in blind, tree in gilt on the front cover; titling in gilt on the spine. With the card of George William Curtis bearing his signature tipped in on the front cover paste down; the signature of Stephen Vincent Benet (grandfather of the poet) on the title page. Spine and cover edges faded, minor spotting, corners bumped; slight toning of pages; still, an important association copy in very good condition.
